Our Projects

buildings_colorful_guatemala_810x188Social Planet is all about the success of our projects and not about the size of our organization.  We maintain very low overhead (no salaries, low operating expenses, etc.).  Our minimal overhead expenses are covered by the Founding Director, so 100% of all donations go DIRECTLY to the project and are accounted for using transparent accounting principles and on-going due diligence inspections.

With that in mind, Social Planet is a registered 501(c)3 private foundation; all donations to any of the projects we support are are tax-deductible. Donations may be made directly to Social Planet or directly to our partner projects, according to your preference. In either case, your entire donation will be directed to the designated project and is tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.

Since its establishment,Social Planet has partnered with a variety of projects that contribute to sustainable development and protect the region’s cultural and environmental legacy. All of our projects are initiated at the request of local communities, and are never pre-determined by external stakeholders from outside the community.

Our grassroots approach means a deep commitment to bottom-up strategies, methods that are highly participatory and empower local stakeholders, and promote self-sufficiency and sustainability every step of the way. According to our definition, sustainable development means empowering communities from within to ensure that their goals and needs are met, and that they are not dependent on external actors in the long term. This means that all of our projects have exit strategies and “hand-over” points whereby leadership and responsibility is transferred from our organization to local stakeholders.

Key attributes of projects we support are:
Focus Specific – Our partners identify specific problems that the Social Planet network and our donor team can solve.
Efficient – Your donations pay no fundraising or administrative overhead to Social Planet, and we work only with organizations that we find to be efficient and effective in achieving their goals.
Life Changing – We choose projects that have a large impact on small groups of individuals.

Social Planet has approximately 50 on-going projects around the world.

Nepal Update – Social Planet is currently accepting donations to help out with the disaster in Nepal. As you know, we have quite a few projects in Nepal and many close friends and good people that have helped us throughout the years.

As usual, 100% of donations go directly to relief. Social Planet has ZERO overhead and any travel or other expenses by Social Planet representatives are paid out of their own pocket.

Any amount helps and adds up!

The donations will focus on immediate relief and then on reconstruction and infrastructure such as safe drinking water, housing, etc.. If you have a specific family or project that you want your donation to be applied, state in on the instruction section in the PayPal Donation page.

Thanks for all your help!
Dave Douglas,
Executive Director, Social Planet
